    Businesses/Commercial Hazardous Waste Disposal

If your business or non-household generates hazardous waste, you may be able to dispose of the waste through the City of Santa Maria’s Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) program at the Santa Maria Regional Landfill Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2065 East Main Street.

    What is VSQG?

State regulations define a business as a VSQG if it generates less than:

    • 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month, or

    • 1 quart or 2.2 pounds of acutely hazardous waste per month

State and Federal Laws limit the use of this type of program to businesses that qualify as a VSQG. Businesses generating more than the above amounts are required to use a licensed hazardous waste hauler to manifest and transport waste. Historical accumulations of waste may require the services of a licensed hazardous waste hauler.

What types of hazardous waste can I bring to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility?

Hazardous waste accepted includes acids, non-PCB ballasts, cleaners, paints, batteries, light bulbs, oil and other hazardous wastes.

What will I need to participate?

If your business does qualify as a VSQG, you must first have the following to bring your hazardous waste to our Facility:

    • EPA Identification Number

    • Business Hazardous Waste Charge Application

    • An approved Disposal Form with information about your hazardous waste

    • An appointment for depositing hazardous waste

    How do I get started?
