Santa Maria customers with residential trash service using 60- or 90-gallon carts are eligible to receive a free landfill pass each year. Only one Pass is issued per service address.

The Pass is mailed to the responsible billing party on record.

Ineligible accounts include properties with shared commercial service (dumpsters), businesses, and other non-single-family residential accounts. 

If you are eligible for a Pass, you can expect to receive the pass by July 1st each year. 

Bring your Pass to the Santa Maria Regional Landfill during operating business hours at 2065 East Main Street, along with a valid Driver’s License or State-issued photo identification, which must match the name and/or address on the Pass. Free entry will not be permitted without valid identification and the original Pass. 

You can bring non-hazardous bulky items such as furniture, dishwashers, white goods (washers/dryers, refrigerators, etc.), or general waste up to 1,000 pounds. Up to four (4) passenger car tires will also be accepted under the Pass. Large, hard-to-handle items (mobile homes, railroad ties, etc.) and materials more than 1,000 pounds will be charged regular disposal fees. Household hazardous waste is not accepted under the Pass.

Yes, others can transport waste using your Pass with advanced, written authorization by the Utilities Department. Access the form here to download and submit in advance. 

If the Pass hasn’t been used yet, it may be reissued by the Utilities Department. There is only one reissue of an unused Pass per authorized account each year. 

No, bulky curbside pickup was discontinued in 1999 and replaced with the Free Landfill Pass program.
