Santa Maria Police Explorer Post # 115
Our Explorer Program is for young men and women interested in learning about future careers in the field of law enforcement. Designed for students between the ages of 14 and 20, the Explorer Program offers youths the opportunity to be involved in their community while making new friends and gaining valuable knowledge.
Explorers also learn through first-hand "on-the-job" experiences in the field, working non-hazardous assignments with Police Officers. Explorers volunteer and participate in several community service events/projects. Our Explorers provide valuable services not only in the City of Santa Maria, but to many cities throughout Santa Barbara County.
Explorers attend weekly meetings and training at the Santa Maria Police Department. Santa Maria Police Explorers wear uniforms furnished by the Santa Maria Police Department. Although we will purchase the majority of your uniform, you must be willing to purchase a few incidental items at your own expense, including boots and a flashlight.
Santa Maria Police Explorers attend a Police Explorer Academy with other local Law Enforcement Explorer Posts. Every Explorer must attend the academy. The Explorer Academy is held once a year. The Explorer Academy training sessions are quasi-militaristic and emphasize education, discipline, and physical exercise.
