DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Public Works Director is responsible for providing leadership and strategic planning in City-owned transportation infrastructure and facilities, transit services and capital improvement. The Director ensures our other City Departments along with the public are able to efficiently and effectively accomplish their mission, by providing safe, and well-designed infrastructure, and public facilities.

To effectively provide public works services to all City residents in a courteous, responsive, responsible and efficient manner.
2024-25 Goals and Objectives
- Coordinate with the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) to discuss funding opportunities to enhance City of Santa Maria infrastructure.
- Complete Downtown Frontage Improvements utilizing Measure A Active Transportation funding.
- Deploy and utilize new asphalt equipment grinder and paver to perform enhanced maintenance on local roadways.
- During the upcoming fiscal year, our Fleet Services Division aims to establish and successfully launch the Central Coast Fleet Club.
- Develop a comprehensive Fleet Replacement Plan for the municipal fleet, establishing annual electric vehicles (EVs).
- Foster strong community engagement for an inclusive public transit system.
- Deploy a Computerize Maintenance System (CMMS) for Street personnel to efficiently monitor maintenance requests from residents concerning asphalt, concrete, street lighting, traffic signals, RAW weed abatement, signs, and paint.
- Fulfill recruitments to become fully staffed organization.
