News Release about SMAT adjustments

Sanitizing of the bus fleet is taking place nightly, using disinfectant on all high-touch surfaces such as door handles, stanchions, seat back handles, grab bars, fare boxes, and driver areas. Portable toilets at the temporary Transit Center are outfitted with hand sanitizer dispensers.
Individual SMAT Route Schedules

  • Breeze Route 100. Servicing the Lompoc Transit Center.
  • Breeze Route 100. 6:20 a.m. trip from Santa Maria to Lompoc changed to 6:10 a.m. to allow for transfers to the COLT BUS service.

Santa Maria Area Transit (SMAT) offers service within the City of Santa Maria and in Orcutt. Most SMAT routes connect at the Santa Maria Transit Center, 400 E. Boone Street.

The Breeze Bus offers a weekday commuter service, with two routes. Route 100 serves Santa Maria, Vandenberg Air Force Base, and Lompoc. Route 200 serves Santa Maria, Los Alamos, Buellton, and Solvang.

SMAT's ADA Service offers curb-to-curb transportation service for individuals with disabilities.

Clean Air Express offers weekday commuter bus from Northern Santa Barbara County to Goleta and Santa Barbara. Guadalupe Flyer offers transit service between Guadalupe and Santa Maria. RTA-Route 10 (San Luis Obispo) serves Santa Maria, Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, and San Luis Obispo.


 The Transit Center Office is staffed weekdays from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Fares are subject to change without notice. Drivers do not carry or make change. Exact fare required. 

Valid identification is required to qualify for senior and disabled discounted fare. Passengers must show proper identification when boarding to qualify for discount fares.

Transfers / Traslados

If transfers are required, passengers are required to ask for transfers upon boarding the bus. Transfers are FREE with the purchase of a one-way fare, and are valid for 60 minutes when transferring to another SMAT route in the same direction of your trip.

Transfers are not valid from RTA Route 10 and Guadalupe Flyer. Full fare is required.

Passengers are required to ask for transfers when boarding. It is recommended that transfers occur at the Transit Center or transfer zones.

Si require un traslado, favor de pedir el translado al abordar el autobus. Traslados son GRATIS con la compra de un pasaje de ida y son válidos por 60 minutos solamente al transferor a otra ruta de SMAT en la misma dirección de su viaje.

Traslados no son válidos de RTA, Ruta 10 y Guadalupe Flyer. Tarifa completa es necesaria.

Pasajeros deben pedir traslados al abordar el autobus. Se recomenda que los traslados ocurran en el Transit Center o zonas de traslados.

Reduced Fare ID Cards / Tarjeta de Tarifa Reducida:

Passengers with disabilities are eligible for reduced fares on fixed route buses. To qualify for a SMAT Fixed Route Discount Card, passengers must complete an application for and have it signed by a physician or health agency. SMAT forms and additional information are available at the SMAT office or by calling (805) 928-5624. Persons with disabilities using service animals under ADA regulations are allowed.

Bike Friendly / Adaptados para Bicicletas

All SMAT buses are equipped with bike racks designed to transport two (2) bicycles. Additional bikes may be securely stowed inside the bus, on a space available basis.

Days of Service / Dias de Servicio

SMAT Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 operate Monday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m. to about 9:30 to 9:45 p.m. (except Routes 4 and 8), and limited service on Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 on Saturdays and Sundays, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. SMAT provides no service on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. SMAT now offers weekend service on these holidays and other days: Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Wednesday, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve, the day after Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.

Lost and Found / Perdido y Encontrado

Call (805) 928-5624 for information regarding lost and found items. All items turned in are kept for 30 days. The Lost and Found office is located at 1303 Fairway Drive, Santa Maria. SMAT and the City of Santa Maria are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

SMAT serve only at designated bus stops. Please arrive about 5 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive at your bus stop.

Rules of the Road / Reglas de la carretera
