Community Oriented Policing
The Santa Maria Police Department’s Community Service Unit consists of officers whose main assignments are handling calls for service while on patrol, but which include collateral duties addressing specific issues within the City which are divided into reporting beats. There are three beats. Personnel assigned to the unit are:

BEAT 2: Officer Matthew Jensen

Officer Jensen has resided in the Santa Maria Valley since 2005, and has been with the Santa Maria Police Department since 2007. He believes strongly in community-oriented policing because a safer community is possible when the community members and the police have mutual respect for one another. While serving as a community liaison, Officer Jensen continues in his role as a Field Training Officer.
BEAT 3: Officer Kenneth Mize
Beat 3 covers the area south of West Morrison, and on the east side of Broadway (State Highway 135), the areas south of Stowell Road.

Officer Kenneth Mize is a born and raised Californian and has been with the department since 2015. Prior to his career with Santa Maria Police Department, he served in the United States Air Force for almost 10 years and continues his service to our country in the United States Air Force Reserves. Officer Mize joined the Community Services Unit with the intention of becoming more involved with the community. One of his major goals is to work closer with the community to improve the quality of life issues in Santa Maria.
