ORDINANCES & SUMMARIES

Santa Maria's ordinances are codified in the Municipal Code, except zoning changes, Specific Plan amendments, fees and charges, and development agreements.

Ordinances are considered by the City Council in two consecutive meetings, first for introduction and second for final adoption. The exceptions are "urgency ordinances" presented to the Council for immediate consideration and adoption. Most ordinances require a 30-day post-adoption period before they become effective, and some require a noticed public hearing.

Depending on the length and complexity of an Ordinance, in general practice, ordinance summaries are published in lieu of the full text. To review the full text of an Ordinance, e-mail the City Clerk's office
