GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION, NOVEMBER 8, 2022

For Election in 2022 will be two positions for four-year terms:

One member of the City Council from District 3   (View Map)
One member of the City Council from District 4   (View Map)

This information has been compiled to assist candidates in filing documents relating to the election.  It includes a calendar of events and summary of provisions and filing requirements.  It is not intended to provide legal advice and is for general guidance only.

Please note that it is not within the scope of this office to determine whether a candidate meets the requirements for holding office.  The Declaration of Candidate signed under penalty of perjury by each candidate declares that the candidate meets the statutory and/or constitutional requirements to hold office.  Individuals with questions concerning their own or another candidate’s qualifications or other related matters should seek legal counsel.

Candidates and others using these reference materials must bear full responsibility to make their own determinations as to all legal standards, duties, and factual material contained therein.

Eligibility for Office:
Unless otherwise specifically provided, no person is eligible to be elected or appointed to an elective office unless that person is a registered voter and otherwise qualified to vote for that office at the time that nomination papers are issued to the person or at the time of the person’s appointment.  [E.C. §201]

CALENDARS & NOTICES

REQUIRED FORMS & FEES WHEN FILING NOMINATION PAPERS

  • Nomination Paper (with at least 20 signatures, but 30 is recommended)  
  • Ballot Designation Worksheet
  • Candidate’s Statement of Qualifications (optional) – printed and electronic format submitted with $1,000 deposit
  • Form 700, Statement of Economic Interests – Candidate filing (to be filed electronically)
  • Sign Requirements (Permit required)
  • Sign Permit Application

Optional Items When Filing

  • Candidate’s Statement of Qualifications – submitted by email to cityclerk@cityofsantamaria.org for review prior to filing
  • Code of Fair Campaign Practices from FPPC – signed
