Mayor’s Task Force Community Forum to Discuss the Process and Gather Input

The public has another opportunity to share its views about what goals should be in the nearly-finished strategic plan spelling out ways to reduce youth violence in the Santa Maria Valley.

Input is encouraged at a Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Safety community forum on Monday, October 9th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, 600 South McClelland Street.

During this forum, progress about the framework and contents of the strategic plan-in-progress will be shared. During the summer-long planning process, more than 100 specific steps were identified by the public, youth, and families to address prevention, intervention, enforcement, and re-entry.

The Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Safety has met multiple times since April – and has held forums, and two safety fairs – to identify programs offered already and those needed. Information has been gathered from the community, schools, and youth. All of that is going to tie together in the plan that is intended to be completed this month or mid-November.

Part of the plan involves how to find funding. Ultimately, the document will be sent to the Santa Maria City Council for adoption.

Questions may be directed to Teresa Reyburn, Recreation Services Manager, at 925-0951 extension 2269, or to Mark van de Kamp at the City Manager’s Office.
