Photojournalist Daniel Dreifuss Brings to Life

“Frames from the Street” at the Shepard Hall Art Gallery

Beginning Thursday, October 1st and through Monday, November 30th, patrons of the Santa Maria Public Library can experience “Frames from the Street” – a photography exhibit by local photojournalist Daniel Dreifuss. The collection, on display in the Shepard Hall Art Gallery, was taken during his travels throughout the world.

The exhibit is on display in the Library’s Shepard Hall Art Gallery. Please note that the gallery is only open during the library’s normal business hours. Due to private events or community meetings in Shepard Hall, viewing times for the exhibit may vary.

The exhibit shows a rare glimpse into his perspective of the street. Each photograph selected is intended to show human elements that a passerby would not normally see without stopping at that moment in time.

“Traveling for me is always a goal.  When I have the opportunity to explore a new part of the world I jump at it,” Dreifuss said. “The thrill of finding a background and waiting for the character to come to tell their story or just walking, looking around, and learning about the environment, light, colors and people - it’s relaxing.”

Dreifuss attended the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, where he majored in Commercial Advertising and co-founded Volatile Magazine, an online music magazine. In Jerusalem, Dreifuss landed an internship with a photo agency that allowed him to work alongside the top photographers in Israel. Today, he works as a photographer at Lee Central Coast Newspaper (Santa Maria Times, Lompoc Record, Santa Ynez Valley News and Adobe Press).
