2016 Water Awareness Poster Contest Winners
Local elementary school students whose water awareness posters earned them contest honors now have their colorful works on display at Santa Maria City Hall, online, and in local newspapers.
This month the City of Santa Maria Utilities Department sponsored its 7th Annual Water Awareness School Poster Contest for third-grade students enrolled in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District. Students were invited to compete by creating colorful posters symbolizing Water Awareness Month and showing the importance of water conservation in the community. Student winners were announced at the Santa Maria City Council meeting on May 4th, and they each received trophies, awards, and prizes for 1st- 2nd- and 3rd-place, and honorable mention.
Congratulations to the following student winners:
1st Place – Valeria Pinon from Robert Bruce Elementary School
2nd Place – Anthony Lopez from Alvin Elementary School
3rd Place – Valeria Castro from Robert Bruce Elementary School
Honorable Mention – Noemi Rincon from Ontiveros Elementary School

Winning posters are on display at City Hall and featured on the City of Santa Maria website, the Utilities Department’s Facebook page, and in the Santa Maria Times and Santa Maria Sun newspapers.
