The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department invites students in grades 6 through 12, ages 11 through 18, to participate in April programming at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center located at 600 South McClelland Street. These programs provide safe, structured recreational opportunities during after-school hours. Fees are listed where applicable; all other programs are free with a Youth Center membership.

Teen Trivia Kahoot Style - Held the third Tuesday of each month from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The April session, “Conspiracy or Real,” will take place April 21^st. 

Connect & Creativity Wednesdays - Weekly art sessions held Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., featuring art, crafts, STEM activities, and seasonal themes. April sessions will include a “Hop into Spring” theme.

Prom-posal Series - Prom season is here. High school students in 11^th and 12^th grades may create prom-posal signs and handmade corsages. Sessions will be held Thursdays, April 2^nd and 9^th, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

DJ Academy - Teens and pre-teens in 6^th to 12^th grade will learn the basics of DJing, including beat matching, mixing, and scratching. The program meets Every Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., from April 8^th through May 13^th. Fees: $25 for City residents; $31 non-city residents.

Teen Career Camp - A two-day Career Camp workshop on April 7^th and April 8^th focused on workforce readiness, including resume development, interview preparation, and team-based activities. Through interactive lessons, participants will work as a team to start their own "corporation" while learning how to create an impressive resume and prepare for a real job interview. No prior experience needed. Teens who participate will be eligible for prizes. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the McClelland Street Market located inside the Youth Center.  

Registration is required for all programs. Youth Center memberships are free for students in grades 6 through 12 and require a parent signature. The Youth Center is open Monday to Thursday from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 2:30 to 8:00 p.m.

El Departamento de Recreación y Parques de la Ciudad de Santa Maria invita a jóvenes en grados 6 al 12, de 11 a 18 años, a participar en la programación de abril en el Centro Juvenil Comunitario Abel Maldonado, ubicado en 600 South McClelland Street. Estos programas ofrecen oportunidades recreativas seguras y estructuradas durante las horas después de la escuela. Miércoles de Conexión y Creatividad – Sesiones semanales los miércoles de 5:30 a 6:30 p.m., con actividades de arte, manualidades, STEM y temas de temporada. En abril, el tema será “Bienvenida a la Primavera”.

Serie “Propuesta de Prom” – Estudiantes de preparatoria en grados 11 y 12 podrán crear letreros de invitación para prom y corsages hechos a mano. Las sesiones se llevarán a cabo los jueves 2 y 9 de abril de 5:00 a 6:30 p.m.

Academia de DJ – Los participantes aprenderán los fundamentos del DJ, incluyendo sincronización de ritmos, mezcla y técnicas básicas. El programa se llevará a cabo los miércoles de 5:30 a 6:30 p.m., del 8 de abril al 13 de mayo. Costo: $25 para residentes de la ciudad y $31 para no residentes.

Campamento de Carreras para Jóvenes – Taller de dos días el 7 y 8 de abril enfocado en preparación laboral, incluyendo elaboración de currículum, preparación para entrevistas y actividades en equipo. Se proporcionará almuerzo.

Se requiere registro para todos los programas. Las membresías del Centro Juvenil son gratuitas para estudiantes en grados 6 al 12 y requieren la firma de un padre o tutor. El Centro Juvenil está abierto de lunes a jueves de 2:30 a 7:00 p.m., y viernes y sábado de 2:30 a 8:00 p.m.
