Fireworks Show and Enforcement

The City of Santa Maria’s Red, White & Boom 4th of July community fireworks show at the Elks Event Center was successful, drawing an estimated 1,500 spectators even with a foggy night sky. The City thanks all sponsors who helped make the show possible.

Results of the City’s first aerial enforcement of illegal fireworks will be available within two weeks. The Fire Department will review video data from a high-altitude aircraft with video and GPS to pinpoint launches. The aircraft flew Saturday, July 2nd but was grounded by heavy fog on the night of Monday, the Fourth of July.

Santa Maria Police conducted fireworks enforcement patrols on four days, and will do so again tonight. While no $1,000 fireworks citations were yet issued, officers confiscated a large amount of illegal fireworks on the night of June 30th and made an arrest.
