Fireworks Yard Signs, Pet Crates

The City of Santa Maria is again offering free yard signs in English and in Spanish for Santa Maria noise-sensitive residents in advance of the Fourth of July Weekend.

The signs are intended for pet owners, veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), people with autism, and others with noise sensitivity. The two-sided signs measure about 14 inches by 23 inches.

Signs and yard stakes may be picked up by appointment at City Hall, 110 East Cook Street, Mondays through Thursdays. To make an appointment, call the City Public Information Manager at (805) 925-0951 extension 2372.

County Animal Services at 548 West Foster Road will have pet crates available for loan (pick up Friday, July 1st, return Wednesday, July 6th) to keep pets safe. Pets can be terrified by fireworks. Take precautions, be prepared. Talk to your veterinarian as he/she may be able to prescribe sedatives for pets. Be sure the pet is wearing a tag and is microchipped. If a pet goes missing, be sure to visit the Animal Services Shelter or call (805) 934-6119.

The fireworks hotline in Santa Maria is (805) 925-0951 extension 3473 (FIRE).

Questions may be directed to the City Manager’s Office (805) 925-0951 extension 2372 or extension 2200.
