Summer Reading Program: Read Beyond the Beaten Path

The City of Santa Maria Public Library begins the 2022 Summer Reading Program: Read Beyond the Beaten Path, Wednesday, June 1st. The program will run through July 30th, 2022.   There is a special reading program for every age level, from toddlers to adults. Each program offers activities and challenges, and prizes for reading based upon age level. Drawings for additional prizes will occur at the end of the program.

Prizes for kids and teens include a free book, summer swag, and an entry into a grand prize drawing, which includes an Amazon gift card.  Adult prizes include a free sign-up prize and entries into multiple drawings for grand prizes.

Participants may sign up at any of the Santa Maria Public Library locations.  The Main Library is located at 421 South McClelland Street.  Adults may sign up at the second floor Information Desk.  Families, children, and teens may sign up on the first floor in Youth Services.   Sign up at one of the branch locations in Orcutt, Cuyama, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, or the Bookmobile. Youth participants can also sign up online at

Studies find that students who participate in public library reading programs scored higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school than those that did not participate.
