Waste Collection Rates Workshop

Public Workshop on Proposed Solid Waste Collection Rates
The City of Santa Maria Utilities Department will host a public workshop on proposed solid waste collection rates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22nd, in the Council Chambers at 110 East Cook Street.
Adjustments to the solid waste collection rates are necessary to provide revenue for increased operating and capital costs. The recommended rates are based on a thorough analysis of solid waste collection operations, a cost-of-service study, a comprehensive business model, and legal requirements.
Notices discussing the proposed rates were distributed to solid waste customers with City utility bills in August. The notice is also available on the City’s website at www.cityofsantamaria.org/utilities under “Rates.”
The Santa Maria City Council will hold a Public Hearing to consider the proposed rates at its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 19th beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Written protests to the proposed rates must be received prior to the conclusion of the Public Hearing.
The City’s last adjustment to solid waste collection rates occurred in January 2017.
