News Conference Today

A news conference with Mayor Alice Patino will be held at 3:00 p.m. today in the City Hall courtyard, to address Sunday’s demonstration and protests. City Hall is located at 110 East Cook Street.

Also invited to speak are Santa Maria Police Chief Phil Hansen, Fifth District County Supervisor Steve Lavagnino, Fourth District Supervisorial Candidate Bob Nelson, and Lawanda Lyons-Pruitt, president of the Santa Maria-Lompoc NAACP.

The Mayor will explain that we cannot lose sight of the reason and purpose for Sunday’s peaceful demonstration, and thank the peaceful protestors. She will say that this is a moment for our community and country to stand united against racism, and for equal justice for all.

Tens of thousands of protestors took to the streets across the country again Sunday, with peaceful demonstrations against police killings of black people overshadowed by unrest that ravaged other cities from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. Other cities and states enacted curfews, deployed police officers, and deployed National Guard soldiers.
