Operation Surf’s Resurface Documentary Screening with Discussion Panel

The City of Santa Maria Public Library and Operation Surf are proud to announce the screening of the documentary, Resurface. The screening will take place in Shepard Hall, on Friday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m.  Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with the founder of Operation Surf, Van Curaza, and veterans who have participated in Operation Surf programs.

Screening this documentary in partnership with Operation Surf and its program participants is one of the many ways the Public Library strives to assist local veterans. This program is a further partnership with Veterans Connect @ the Library and Community Conversations with Veterans, through California Center for the Book.

The mission of Operation Surf is to channel the healing powers of the ocean to restore hope, renew purpose, and revitalize community. Operation Surf offers two curriculum-based programs for new veteran participants at no cost. This includes a week-long program that serves wounded military across the nation with a focus on recreational therapy, and a new six-month program, OS6, that serves local Central Coast veterans.  Upon graduating the OS 6 program, local veterans earn a new surf board, wetsuit, and the skills to continue the mindset indefinitely. California Center for the Book is a program of the California Library Association, supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
