Ceremony for Betteravia/101 Interchange
A ceremony will be held at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 7th to commemorate the completion of traffic flow improvements at Santa Maria’s Betteravia Road/Highway 101 interchange. The location is the parking lot at the new CoastHills Credit Union building, adjacent to the project.
Invitees include City, County, State and Federal representatives, the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, Granite Construction, Caltrans, the California Highway Patrol, and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The $900,000 project, completed from July to October, relieves traffic congestion, minimizes delays, and improves flow at the northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp.
The City added a second right-hand turn lane at the top of the southbound 101 offramp onto Betteravia Road, and extended the dual left-turn lanes along eastbound Betteravia Road to the northbound 101 onramp. New road surfaces, lane markings, and traffic signals are now in place.
The City of Santa Maria contracted with Granite Construction for the project funded by sales tax revenues (Measure A) and Federal Local Surface Transportation Program monies. Measure A is a transportation sales tax measure approved by 79 percent of Santa Barbara County voters in November 2008. The focus of Measure A is to relieve traffic congestion and improve safety. The Measure A Investment Plan provides $455 million each for the North County and South Coast for high priority transportation projects and programs to address the current and future needs of local communities.
