“Heart of the Valley” Speaker on August 17th
The City of Santa Maria Public Library is pleased to offer a free local history series, “Heart of the Valley” on the third Saturday of each month. The next series is in the Library’s Shepard Hall on Saturday, August 17th at 10:15 a.m. Thanks to a partnership with local historian Shirley Contreras, the monthly series features an expert speaker talking about various aspects of Santa Maria Valley History.
The guest speaker for August is Dr. Kevin Walthers, Ph.D., Superintendent/President of Allan Hancock College. Dr. Walthers will be speaking on how Allan Hancock College changes the odds for the community.
The series is designed to educate and delight the public with interesting facts from the past that have shaped Santa Maria and other local areas in the valley. Suggestions for possible speakers are welcomed and encouraged.
The Library’s hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Library is closed on Sunday. The Library is located at 421 South McClelland Street.
Seating is limited and is offered on a first come, first served basis.
