Active Aging Week Events  


Join in the fun of Active Aging Week, September 22-29, 2018.  The weeklong observance celebrates active aging adults as fully participating members of society and promotes the benefits of leading an active, healthy lifestyle. For the full schedule of activities go online to Participants may select what interests them most and attend a variety of free and/and or low cost events.


The week is organized by the City of Santa Maria Active Aging Committee which is led by the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, and is comprised of businesses and agencies that work year-round to provide a variety of health and wellness classes and educational programs geared specifically for adults 50+ years of age.


 During Active Aging Week these classes are free to attend and try out and include Zumba, Zumba Chair Workout, Water Fitness Class, Folk Dance, Yoga and the Build Your Own Body (BYOB) class. Also included are free classes offered by other agencies including Tai Chi, and arts and crafts.


New this year to Active Aging Week are the Community Action Commission’s 60+ free Luncheon on Tuesday, September 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (advance reservations must be made at (805) 925-3010, and the Arts and Crafts Popup Shop taking place on Wednesday, September 26th from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Both of these events will take place at the Elwin Mussell Center located at 510 East Park Avenue in Santa Maria.
