WHAT IS CESQG?
State regulations define a business as a CESQG if it generates less than:

  • 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month, or
  • 1 quart or 2.2 pounds of acutely hazardous waste per month.

WHAT TYPES OF HAZARDOUS WASTE CAN I BRING?
Hazardous waste accepted at our facility includes acids, non-PCB ballasts, cleaners, paints, batteries, light bulbs, oil and other hazardous wastes. For a complete list, see the current Hazardous Waste Collected and Fee Schedule.

WHAT WILL I NEED TO PARTICIPATE?
If your business does qualify as a CESQG you must have the following to bring your hazardous waste to our Facility:
 EPA Identification number
 Business Hazardous Waste Charge Application
An approved Disposal Form with information
 about your hazardous waste
An appointment for depositing hazardous waste at the Facility

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

  1. EPA Identification Number:
  2. In California, every business which generates or accumulates hazardous waste is required to have an EPA identification number.

If you need an EPA ID number go to the California DTSC website link below:

    http://www.dtsc.ca.gov/HazardousWaste/upload/GISS_-FORM_1358.pdf

Fill out Form 1358 and follow the instructions. It takes the DTSC about two weeks to issue the number.

  3. Business Hazardous Waste Charge Account:
  4. You must have an account with the City of Santa Maria to use the Hazardous Waste Collection Facility as a CESQG. If you do not have an account, fill out the Business Hazardous Waste Charge Application and submit it to the City per the instructions below.

  5. Disposal Forms:
  6. Fill out both sides of the City of Santa Maria Business Hazardous Waste Disposal Form. From this information we can verify the approval of hazardous waste to be accepted and determine the estimated collection cost.

  7. Appointment:
  8. Submit the Business Hazardous Waste Charge Application (if needed) and the Business Hazardous Waste Disposal Form to the City in one of the following ways:

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Transporting: Use caution while transporting hazardous wastes by closing all containers with a secure fitting lid, storing upright with leak-proof secondary containment and carry absorbent materials. When possible, keep hazardous wastes in their original product containers or provide a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

    Disposal Rates:
Disposal rates are based upon the types and quantities of hazardous waste. This is a revenue neutral program. Costs were calculated using the actual cost to handle and dispose for the hazardous waste. See the current Hazardous Waste Collected & Fee Schedule.
