Bob Orach has lived in Santa Maria for more than 30 years. A native of Ohio, he was raised in Tuscon, Arizona. He has more than 24 years of service as a City Council member and was re-elected in 2012.
Mr. Orach holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Arizona, Tucson. He is an extremely active member in the Santa Maria community, having served on the City Council since 1986. He has served as the Chair of the Santa Barbara County Local Agency Formation Commission and as a member of the City's Investment Oversight committee. Additionally, Mr. Orach has served on numerous local Boards including the United Way of the Central Coast and the Santa Maria Valley Youth Soccer League. He is a Rotarian, member of the Elks, and Ambassador to the United States Jaycees.
After his college graduation, he went to work for Zellerbach Paper Co. in Sacramento. He was promoted to manage the branch in Santa Maria (when the City's population was 32,000) and oversaw the local office for 23 years. Later, he worked for several companies in the financial sector. He was the Resource Development Manager for the United Way of the Central Coast for over six and a half years. He worked for Community West Bank as Vice President of Sales & Business Development for Northern Santa Barbara County. He currently works at Toyota of Santa Maria.
He began with the City of Santa Maria as a volunteer with the Recreation and Parks Department, and became a Recreation and Parks Commissioner before being elected to the City Council
Mr. Orach was involved in and/or supported the construction of the State Water Project Coastal Branch, the new Public Library, Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, the Hagerman Softball Complex, the transfer of the Veterans Memorial Building from the County to the City, and the construction of new City fire stations.
Bob has been married to Mary Ellen Orach for more than 40 years. He has a son, John David, who lives in Santa Barbara with his family.
